will the real "Pet friendly" please stand up?!

No vacation is complete without the entire family, but finding that perfect dog friendly vacation spot can be a challenge.  As a dog lover, I cannot imagine going away without my treasured four legged buddy.  Finding that utopia in the wilderness takes a lot of research.  Many places say they are pet friendly, but will not allow your pet to be left unattended in the room...which poses the challenge of what to do with the dog while you are swimming...or if you go out to dinner.  And speaking of swimming, many places do not allow dogs on the beach or in the water.  Some places say pet friendly, but only accept small dogs, or ban certain breeds.  With so many restrictions it can make it hard to relax and enjoy your vacation.  Then there are the places that say pet friendly, and have no standards at all, with dogs running wild like in a leash free park.  While this may sound fun, what happens to the dogs who are not good around other dogs or small children?  Or dogs owned by people who are not responsible with vaccinations or picking up poop.  All these considerations can leave you with a big fat headache...no one wants to go on vacation to a place loaded with restrictions and rules..nor do you want a place that is not clean or caring about the well being of your pet.
